Coronavirus Australia Update (16 July)

  • Victoriahas recorded 317 positive new cases on 16 July, making it Australia’s highest daily increase so far. 

Premier Daniel Andrews then talks about the probability of Victoria needing to move to stage four restrictions because the effect of the stage three lockdown measures introduced in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire last Wednesday had not yet begun to show.

  • NSWhas recorded 15 new cases, including three cases of community transmission with unknown source. 

  • South Australia records one new caseof a woman who travelled from overseas to Victoria, where she tested negative twice while in quarantine, before coming to South Australia.

  • Western Australia reported 8 new cases on 15 July. The WA Health Department said seven of the eight new cases had been on a flight from London via Dubai that landed in Perth on July 1.

  • Northern Territory has zero new cases today. The state also plans to re-open its border on 17 July for the first time in four months.

  • ACT, Queensland, and Tasmania also record zero new cases today.
