When can International Students return to Australia?

International Students Could Return to Australia in July

During this pandemic, stressful and confusing time a quarter of migrants, including International Students in Australia went back to their own respective countries.

The reopening date of border is not explicitly mentioned or announced yet.  Lots of students are in a confusing state and unsure about when they will be able to return to Australia.

However, according to the recent updates from the Australian Government, the National Cabinet – comprising the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison and all state and territory premiers and chief ministers – has agreed to work together in bringing back the International Students in the safest options possible through a series of small and “scaled pilot initiatives”.

Pilot Program

Under the pilot program, the returning students from overseas will have to go through a systematically controlled setting, with the appropriate quarantine entry arrangement and biosecurity.  The Prime Minister has announced that International Students could return to Australia as soon as the month of July. However, he added that to bring in the students from overseas, the states and territories must reopen their borders first.

“I made clear to the states and territories today if someone can’t come to our state from Sydney, then someone can’t come to your state from Singapore”, Mr.Morrison told reporters in Canberra. Currently, NSW and Victoria, the only 2 states that have not closed their borders, are hoping International Students to return for semester two – end of July to August.

Last week, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said he was hopeful of getting “international education back on its feet soon”. While South Australia has announced to open its border 20 July, the other remaining states and territories remain unclear with their border restrictions.

Support for International Students

In this difficult time, education intuitions, government agencies, and the Australian community are all working hard together to support each other during this very uncertainty period. It’s important to remember that we are all #InThisTogether.
