Migration Program Planning Levels

2020-21

The Migration program ceiling and quota has been published for the 2020-2021 financial year.

The total places available are capped at a ceiling of 160,000 for 2020-21 which is exactly the same as was the year before (2019-2020 financial year).

This planning level goes to show that the government is focusing more on upgrading the Regional Area of Australia.

State and Regional Migration has been one of the most popular Migration choices from many Migration seekers and ex-pats in Australia. The number of invitations and permanent residency issued through the State and Regional Migration Stream has increased massively over the last couple of years.

Here is the comparison of this years migration planning level with that from the last financial year (2019-2020)

This years' planning level show that the government is focusing more on upgrading the Regional Area of Australia as the ratio of state/regional sponsor and skilled independent visa improved and the current state and regional Migration quota is triple the size of skilled independent visa (subclass 189), which is 22,400 compared to the latter one of only 6500.

This year's planning level brings more news as the allocation of invitation places has more than doubled compared to that of the 2019-20 financial year.

As can be seen, Victoria last year was topping the state and Regional sponsorship in terms of invitations. The good news for all Victorians is that the Victorian state nomination interim period now is extended:

Victorian government has announced a news update regarding Skilled and Business Migration Update:

  • Any occupation from the Department of Home Affair's eligible List can apply

  • Victorian Government has confirmed that they will continue to use the interim allocation places beyond 5 October.

  • Victorian Government will continue to nominate skilled and business migrants for now.
