Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visa Open for Applications in Tasmania

Applications for Tasmanian nomination under the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) visa program have already opened since Saturday 16 November 2019.

 

The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) is a provisional visa to allow you to live and work in the state of Tasmania for up to five years.

 

To receive a Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) nomination from Tasmania, you will need to meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

  • Under 45 years of age

  • Nominated an occupation on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations

  • A valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation 

  • Competent English language level (IELTS: 6 for each of the 4 components or same level in other English tests) or above.

  • At least 65 points on the Department of Home Affairs points test.

 

There are five streams under 491 visa in Tasmania:

 

Category 1 – Tasmanian graduate

Criteria to be nominated:

  • a bachelor or higher degree, a diploma or a trade qualification

  • One-year full-time study in Tasmania

  • Live in Tasmania for at least one year

 

Category 2 – Working in Tasmania

Criteria to be nominated:

  • have worked in a full-time position for at least 6 months.

  • You must live in Tasmania

  • Your employer must have been actively operating the business for the past 12 months

 

Category 3A – Overseas Applicant (TSOL)

Criteria to be nominated:

  • your nominated occupation must be listed on the Tasmania Skilled Occupation List (TSOL)

  • you, or any of your dependents must have not lived in another state in Australia in the past 12 months.

  • you must meet the English requirement specified for your nominated occupation.

 

Category 3B – Overseas Applicant (Job Offer)

Criteria to be nominated:

  • have received a formal job offer in your nominated occupation

  • you, or any of your dependents must have not lived in another Australian state or territory in the past 12 months

  • Your employer must have been actively operating the business for the past 12 months

 

Category 4 – Family in Tasmania

Criteria to be nominated:

  • has been an Australian Permanent Resident or an Australian Citizen for a minimum of 12 months

  • is currently residing in Tasmania and has been for at least 12 months

  • agrees to support and assist you to gain a job

The family member that is sponsoring you must be your next of kin.

 

Category 5 – Small Business Owner

Criteria to be nominated:

  • you have established and operated your business in Tasmania for at least 6 months

  • the business is able to give you a personal income that would meet the minimum annual taxable income requirement of AU$53,900.

You must provide a comprehensive business plan.

 

The Australian government has been focusing on developing the regional area and especially the state of Tasmania has made it much easier to stay in Australia.
