Update on TR 485 Visa and Hong Kong Students
Current and future students from Hong Kong will be eligible for a 5-year temporary graduate visa once they successfully complete eligible tertiary studies.
In a joint statement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and previous acting Immigration Minister Alan Tudge, the following were stated-
Temporary Graduate Visa (TR 485)
Existing Temporary Graduate Visa Holders
Hong Kong passport holders who held a Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) or Temporary Skilled Shortage (subclass 482 or 457) visa on 9 July 2020 will automatically have that visa extended for five years.
Temporary graduate and skilled workers will be offered an additional five years of work rights in Australia on top of the time they’ve already been in Australia, with a pathway to permanent residency at the end of that period.

An extension of up to 5 years, starting from 9 July 2020 will be given
1) Current International Students/Current TR 485 Holders

Students will be eligible for a five-year graduate visa from the conclusion of their studies, with a pathway to permanent residency at the end of that period.

2) Future TR (Hong Kong) Applicants

Future Hong Kong applicants for temporary skilled visas will be provided with a five-year visa, based on meeting the updated skills lists and Labour Market Testing requirements.
Hong Kong residents who study/work in Regional Areas
The existing arrangement will continue to apply for those applicants who study and work in regional areas to help address skills shortages in those areas, with pathways to permanent residency after 3 years.
Business Visa
The statement also has been made in regards to attract new Business from Hong Kong as the acting Minister quoted in his joint statement:
"New incentives will be developed to attract export-oriented Hong Kong-based businesses to relocate to Australia. As well as economic incentives, there will be permanent visa pathways available for all critical Hong Kong-based staff of the relocated business."
