It is comparatively more challenging to attain a skills assessment if your nominated occupation is in the Short-Term Occupation list compared to that of Medium to Long Term Occupation List.  However, currently (From 25th November 2023); employers are able to nominate holders of all TSS visa streams, including Short-term and Labour Agreement streams which means applicants with occupation listed under short-term will also have a pathway now to permanent residency through employer sponsorship.

Your Skills (sometimes includes Degree + Work experience) must be accredited by an Australian Skills Assessing body and you must have a positive outcome before applying for Skilled Migration in Australia.

  • AACA – Architects Accreditation Council of Australia, Inc

  • AASW – Australian Association of Social Workers

Few occupations require Work experience in your post qualification whereas for other occupations, a degree is sufficient enough. For example, IT Graduates need a 1 Year Full time work experience or, a Professional Year Degree along with their Australian Bachelor/Master degree.

Civil Construction Draftspersons

Upon completing a 2-year Advanced Diploma of Civil construction design, you can possibly apply for a Migration skills assessment.

  • Graduate Visa (TR 485): 18 months of full-time work right upon course completion

If you enjoy assembling tools and work with machineries, this could be a good career start for you. Mechanical Engineering Draftspersons received PR invitation lately across multiple states last year. However, one challenge is that upon completion, you can possibly attain a Migration skills assessment and lodge for an expression of interest for PR but you wouldn't have a Graduate visa. If you enjoy designing, this could be a good career start for you. However, one challenge is that upon completion, you can possibly attain a Migration skills assessment only after having a 1-year post study experience (At least 20 hours per week).Given thta upon completing this course, you wouldn't have any graduate visa, this could be challenging. Also, you have study option available only at Melbourne and Regional Victoria. However, if you'd like to further study, you can move in to a relevant Bachelor or a Project Management course upon completing this course. Apart from these, there are also Trade occupations and Technical Trade occupations which are in high demand.
Applicants from overseas recently received PR invitation with considerably less points (starting from only 65 points) for these Trade occupations. However, you need to be wary of whether these occupations are in the Medium to Long-term Skilled occupation list or in the short term list. Also, few of these occupations allow you to apply for post study work visa whereas few do not. 

With most of these occupations you can attain a positive Migration Skills assessment whereas there are few occupations among these for which you need at least 1 year of post study work experience in relevant occupation in order to apply for Migration Skills assessment.
