Occupation Lists

Understanding whether your occupation is eligible is the first step in applying for an Australian visa.

Australia uses several official occupation lists to determine which skilled workers can apply for migration. These lists are regularly updated and directly impact your eligibility for visas such as the 482, 186, 189, 190, and 491 visas.

Use the sections below to explore each occupation list and find where your job fits.

WHAT IS AN OCCUPATION LIST?

Australia’s occupation lists are based on the ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) system.

Each occupation:

  • Has a specific code

  • Is assigned a skill level

  • May be eligible for certain visa types

Your occupation must be on the relevant list to:

  • Apply for skilled migration

  • Be sponsored by an employer

  • Receive state nomination
