TRAINING VISA SUBCLASS 407
The Training Visa Subclass 407 is a temporary visa designed for structured workplace training rather than employment. It is suitable for professionals who need occupational registration, advanced skill development, or capacity building experience.
Unlike employer-sponsored visas such as the 482, the 407 visa focuses on training outcomes rather than filling skill shortages.
The visa can be granted for up to two years and may allow family members to accompany you. While it does not provide direct permanent residency, it can support long-term migration strategies in certain cases.

No Occupation List for 407 Visa
Unlike 482 or 186 visas, the Training Visa 407 doesn't require your occupation to be on any specific list (CSOL or ROL).
Why? The 407 visa focuses on structured training programs rather than filling skill shortages. Your training must be:
-
Genuine occupational training
-
Structured and monitored
-
Provided directly by the sponsor (unless exempt)
-
Beneficial for your career development or capacity building
This flexibility allows training across various occupations and industries.
No Salary Threshold
The Training Visa 407 has no minimum salary requirement.
However:
-
You must be paid fairly for any work performed
-
Payment must meet Australian workplace standards
-
Terms and conditions must comply with Australian law
Note: If your training involves significant productive work, your sponsor must demonstrate this is incidental to the training purpose.

Can 407 Visa Lead to Permanent Residency?
The Training Visa Subclass 407 does not provide a direct pathway to permanent residency (PR). It is a temporary visa designed for structured workplace training rather than long-term employment.
However, the 407 visa can support future migration plans in certain situations.
Many applicants use the 407 visa to:
-
Gain relevant Australian work experience
-
Complete occupational registration requirements
-
Strengthen eligibility for employer-sponsored visas
After completing training, some visa holders may transition to visas such as the Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) visa, subject to occupation eligibility and employer sponsorship.
Your long-term migration outcome depends on:
-
Your occupation
-
Your employer’s willingness to sponsor
-
Skills assessment and English requirements
-
Current migration settings
If permanent residency is your goal, it is important to structure your training and employment strategy early.
