NT Offshore Occupation List 2026
Last Update: 1 June 2026
The NT Offshore Migration Occupation List (NTOMOL) identifies the skilled occupations eligible for NT Government nomination from outside Australia under the Priority Occupation stream for a State Sponsored Regional (subclass 491) visa.
If your occupation appears on this list, you may be eligible to apply for NT nomination under the Priority Occupation stream. If your occupation is not on this list, you may still have options
Who This List Applies To
This list applies only to skilled workers currently living outside Australia who are applying under the NT Priority Occupation stream.
If you are applying under the NT Family stream or the NT Job Offer stream, this list does not apply to you. Applicants under these two streams can nominate any occupation on the national skilled occupation list on the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website.
If you are already living in the NT as an NT resident or NT graduate, this list does not apply to you. Onshore applicants must check the national skilled occupation list maintained by the Department of Home Affairs.
Important: How to Read This List
The Department of Home Affairs uses the 2013 ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) version for occupation descriptions for skilled visa subclass 491 and visa subclass 190.
Some occupations on the NTOMOL have an additional licensing or registration requirement. Where the comments column states "Must provide evidence of Australian licence/registration or a statement outlining eligibility to obtain registration of licence to work in Australia", you must include this evidence with your nomination application.
If your occupation requires Australian registration or licensing, you must provide either evidence of current registration or a statement explaining your eligibility to obtain that registration upon arriving in Australia.
My Occupation Is on the List — What Next?
Confirming your occupation is on the NTOMOL means you meet one of the key requirements for the NT Priority Occupation stream. You must also meet all of the following before applying.
-
Age: You must be under 45 years of age at the time of nomination.
-
Skills assessment: You must have a valid full skills assessment from a relevant Australian Government skills assessment authority for your nominated occupation.
-
Work experience: You must have post-qualification work experience of at least 2 years in your nominated occupation in the last 5 years. Some occupations on the NTOMOL require additional years of experience — check the comments column for your specific occupation.
-
English: You must have at least Competent English unless otherwise specified by the relevant assessing, licensing or registration body for your nominated occupation.
-
Points test: You must obtain a minimum of 65 points in the Department of Home Affairs skilled migration points test.
-
Financial capacity: You must declare that you have the financial capacity to settle in the NT. The NT Government does not provide financial assistance.
-
Commitment to the NT: You must demonstrate a genuine commitment to live and work in the NT on a long-term basis and agree to do so for at least 3 years from visa grant.

How to Apply for NT Nomination
My Occupation Is Not on the List — Do I Still Have Options?
Yes. Not being on the NTOMOL does not automatically disqualify you from NT nomination.
If you have a verifiable job offer from an NT employer, you may be eligible under the NT Job Offer stream. Under this stream, you can nominate any occupation on the national Department of Home Affairs eligibility list. The job offer must be full-time (at least 38 hours per week) with a contract duration of at least 12 months, with an NT business that has been actively operating in the NT for at least 12 months.
If you have an eligible family member living in the NT, you may be eligible under the NT Family stream. Under this stream, you can also nominate any occupation on the national Department of Home Affairs eligibility list. Your family member must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, and must have been living in the NT for at least 12 months.

Offshore Applicants and the Subclass 190 Visa
Offshore applicants will generally only be considered for a subclass 491 nomination. The subclass 491 is a provisional 5-year visa that allows you and your dependant family members to live, work and study in the NT. After living and working in the NT for at least 3 years, you may qualify for a permanent residency pathway.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NT Offshore Migration Occupation List?
The NT Offshore Migration Occupation List (NTOMOL) is the list of skilled occupations eligible for NT Government nomination from outside Australia under the Priority Occupation stream. It applies only to offshore applicants applying for a subclass 491 visa nomination under the Priority Occupation stream. Offshore applicants under the NT Family stream or NT Job Offer stream do not need to be on this list.
Does being on the NTOMOL guarantee I will receive a nomination?
No. Having your occupation on the NTOMOL means you meet one of the requirements for the Priority Occupation stream. The NT Government assesses each application on its own merits. Meeting the eligibility guidelines does not guarantee a nomination. NT nominations are issued at the discretion of the NT Government.
What does "Must provide evidence of Australian licence/registration" mean?
For occupations with this comment, you must include evidence of your current Australian registration or licence, or a written statement explaining your eligibility to obtain that registration or licence upon arriving in Australia. This applies to regulated occupations such as nurses, teachers, engineers, doctors, electricians and others where Australian licensing is mandatory.
Which ANZSCO version does the NT use?
The Department of Home Affairs uses the 2013 ANZSCO version for occupation descriptions for skilled visa subclasses 491 and 190.
My occupation is not on the NTOMOL — can I still apply from overseas?
Yes, in some circumstances. If you have a verifiable full-time job offer from an NT employer, you may apply under the NT Job Offer stream. If you have an eligible family member living in the NT, you may apply under the NT Family stream. Both streams allow you to nominate any occupation on the national Department of Home Affairs eligibility list.
How much work experience do I need?
You must have post-qualification work experience of at least 2 years in your nominated occupation in the last 5 years. Some occupations on the NTOMOL require additional years of experience. Check the list for the specific requirements of your occupation.
What are the financial requirements for offshore applicants?
You must declare that you have the financial capacity to settle in the NT. The NT Government does not provide financial assistance. As a guide, the minimum net assets recommended are AU$35,000 for an individual applicant, AU$50,000 for an applicant and spouse, AU$60,000 for an applicant, spouse and one child, and AU$65,000 for an applicant, spouse and two children.
