South Australia’s Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMAs) have officially been extended, providing ongoing opportunities for skilled migrants and employers. One of the most exciting updates is the new fast-track to permanent residency (PR) eligible applicants under the DAMA Skills in Demand (SID) 482 visa can now apply for PR after just 2 years instead of 3.
This extension, valid until 30 June 2026, ensures continued support for industries facing skill shortages while making the state a more attractive destination for international talent.
482 to 186: PR Now Available in Just 2 Years
The biggest update for migrants on a DAMA-sponsored 482 visa is the shortened pathway to permanent residency. You can now transition to the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) subclass 186 visa after just 2 years of full-time work.
Previously, this pathway required 3 years, meaning applicants can now secure PR faster and plan long-term settlement in Australia sooner.
Key DAMA Concessions Still Apply
South Australia’s DAMA program continues to offer generous concessions that make employer sponsorship more accessible than standard visa programs:
Age concession: Applicants can be up to 55 years old
Income concession: 10% below the standard TSMIT
English language concessions: For select occupations
Work experience concessions: Depending on your role
These benefits make it easier for skilled workers and the employers who sponsor them to meet visa requirements.
Industry Labour Agreements Take Priority from 1 July 2025
Starting 1 July 2025, occupations listed under specific Industry Labour Agreements (ILAs) can no longer be accessed under the South Australian DAMA program if they are already covered by an ILA.
For example:
Aged Care providers must now use the Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement (ACILA) or other suitable programs like the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme instead of DAMA.
Employers need to check which program is appropriate for their sector and occupation before lodging sponsorship applications.
Plans for a New Five-Year Statewide DAMA
Looking ahead, the South Australian Government has announced its intent to negotiate a new five-year statewide DAMA during the 2025–26 financial year. This would streamline migration options and expand access across the state, further supporting workforce growth and regional development.
South Australia DAMA Offers PR in Just 2 Years
If you’re a skilled worker or employer looking to take advantage of these new opportunities, South Australia’s DAMA remains one of the most flexible migration programs in Australia. From age and income concessions to a faster PR pathway, now is the best time to act.
