Introduction
The Australian Government has released interim state nomination allocations for the 2025–26 program year. These interim allocations allow state governments to continue processing priority applications while the final program numbers are being determined.
Both Tasmania and Western Australia have received small allocations to clear backlogs and prioritise urgent cases. Below is a summary of what has been announced.
Tasmania Interim Allocation
Tasmania has been given an interim allocation of 165 skilled visa nomination places, divided as follows:
85 places for State sponsored Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated visa)
80 places for State sponsored Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional visa)
How the interim places are being used:
All provisionally approved Subclass 491 applicants will be nominated.
Due to limited 190 places, priority will be given to applicants in Australia whose visas are expiring soon, or those currently holding a Bridging visa.
Remaining provisionally approved Subclass 190 applicants have been contacted by email and will be nominated once the full 2025–26 allocation is released.
⚠️ The 2025–26 Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program has not yet opened to new registrations of interest. Applicants should continue monitoring the Tasmanian Government website for updates.
Western Australia Interim Allocation
Western Australia has also been issued a small interim allocation for the 2025–26 State Nominated Migration Program (SNMP).
Key points:
This allocation will be used to finalise remaining 2024–25 applications.
Due to the limited number of places, the 2025–26 WA program year will not open until the Commonwealth issues the formal allocation.
Applicants are advised to regularly check the Western Australian Government website for updates on when new applications will open.
What This Means for Skilled Visa Applicants
These interim allocations are temporary measures, allowing Tasmania and WA to manage pending cases while waiting for their full 2025–26 nomination allocations.
If you are a skilled migrant planning to apply for a Subclass 190 or 491 visa, you will need to wait until the full allocations are announced and state nomination programs formally reopen.
