Tasmania's 2026-27 Skilled Migration State Nomination Program has 2,050 nomination places: 1,250 for Subclass 190 and 800 for Subclass 491. The program opened to new Registrations of Interest on 17 August 2026, with the first invitation round issued on 20 August 2026.

Migration Tasmania publishes invitation figures — invitations issued, lowest scores invited, and remaining nomination places — on a weekly basis throughout the program year.

​How the Tasmania Invitation Round Works

Tasmania uses invitation rounds to select candidates from the ROI pool.

Before receiving an invitation, applicants must submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) outlining their eligibility, migration points, and pathway suitability.

During each invitation round, the state government:

• reviews submitted ROIs

• assesses eligibility requirements

• considers migration points

• evaluates workforce demand in Tasmania

• selects candidates to receive nomination invitations

Candidates who receive an invitation may then lodge a state nomination application.

Tasmania does not follow a fixed invitation schedule. Rounds are conducted throughout the migration program year depending on nomination availability and labour market demand.

Visas Available Through Tasmania Nomination

Tasmania provides state nomination for two skilled migration visas.

​

Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) provides permanent residence for skilled migrants nominated by an Australian state.

• applicants must commit to living and working in Tasmania​

Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491)

The Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491) provides a regional provisional visa for skilled migrants.

Key features:

• five-year regional visa

• requires state nomination

• applicants must live and work in regional Australia

• provides a pathway to permanent residence

Tasmania is classified as a regional area, allowing applicants to access the Subclass 491 pathway.

Registration of Interest (ROI)

To be considered for Tasmania nomination, candidates must submit a Registration of Interest (ROI).

The ROI allows the state government to assess applicants based on their profile and suitability for Tasmania’s migration program.

Applicants provide details such as:

• occupation

• visa subclass preference

• employment status

• migration pathway eligibility

• migration points score

ROIs remain valid for a limited period and may need to be resubmitted if they expire before an invitation is issued.

Submitting an ROI does not guarantee an invitation. Tasmania selects candidates who best meet its current priorities.

Pass Levels Used in Tasmania

Migration Tasmania ranks ROI candidates using four pass levels, from highest to lowest invitation priority:

• Gold Pass – candidates who meet the state's top-priority criteria, including the required minimum weekly Tasmanian employment hours. Gold Pass candidates are invited first.

• Green Pass – strong candidates who meet standard priority criteria.

• Orange-Plus Pass – candidates with at least one enhanced priority attribute, invited ahead of standard Orange candidates.

• Orange Pass – eligible candidates who may wait longer for an invitation.

Factors That Influence Tasmania Invitations

Several factors influence selection during Tasmania invitation rounds.

Migration Points

Applicants must hold at least 65 migration points to qualify for the General Skilled Migration program. Higher scores may improve invitation chances.

Occupation Demand

Tasmania prioritises occupations that align with the state’s workforce needs.

Employment in Tasmania

Applicants already working in Tasmania are often prioritised.

Migration Pathway Eligibility

Tasmania offers different nomination pathways, including:

• skilled workers in Tasmania

• Tasmanian graduates

• overseas applicants with job offers

Each pathway has specific eligibility requirements.
