Who and What is this visa for?

Temporary Activity Visa (subclass 408) Visa is generally for Government endorsed and special events; the Australian Government however has declared COVID-19 as an event which could be considered under this VisaThis is known as the COVID-19 Pandemic event visa.

 

The swift transmission of coronavirus all around the world urged a lot of countries to close their borders. Many migrants in Australia with temporary visas are in limbo and many among them are stuck in Australia as their native country border is still closed. To help ease this situation, the Australian government launched this new free visa.

The benefit of the 408 Visa?

  • This new Temporary Activity visa can prolong your stay in Australia for up to 12 months.

  • You can work full time

  • You can apply this Visa for FREE

  • There is no fixed period of stay for all COVID 408 visas granted, the Department of Home Affairs will decide based on every single applicant’s situation.

What is considered as Critical sectors?

  • Agriculture

  • Food processing

  • Health care

  • Aged care

  • Childcare

  • Disability care

 

Medical professionals can apply for this visa as well to commence work in the healthcare sector.

You may need to pay costs for your health examinations, police checks, and biometrics, but you do not have to pay any charge for this new 408 visa application. You can also include eligible family members in your application and travel from or to Australia multiple times during the stay when travel restrictions are no longer.

Are you eligible for this visa?

To be eligible to apply for the 408 Visa, You must meet the following:

  • Be currently in Australia

  • Be unable to return to leave Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions

  • Have 28 days or less remaining in Australia with your current visa or your last substantive visa expired less than 28 days ago

  • Either provide evidence from your employer that you have ongoing work in a critical sector and that an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident cannot fill the position, or prove that you cannot meet any other visa’s requirements
