Tourism & Hospitality Jobs in Northern and Remote Australia


Tourism and hospitality work is considered eligible specified work for a second or third Working Holiday visa (Subclass 462 & 417). Jobs include:


  • Accommodation: Hotels, hostels, camping parks, and guesthouses

  • Food and beverage: Cafes, takeaways, catering, pubs, and clubs

  • Tourist services: Tour guides, adventure instructors, travel, events, and venues


Examples: Chef, guest service agent, dive instructor, tour bus driver


Plant & Animal Cultivation Jobs – Regional Australia


Work in plant and animal cultivation involves harvesting, packing, or processing fruit, vegetables, and animal products. Eligible roles include:


  • Fruit picking on orchards

  • Propagating plants or fungi

  • Processing plant products

  • Dairy production from raw materials

  • Horse breeding & stud farming

  • Feeding & herding cattle

  • Zoo work involving plants or animals

These jobs are eligible for regional work experience if performed in the designated regions. Work undertaken in the areas of plant and animal cultivation, fishing and pearling, and tree farming and felling must be described in the list below to meet the specified work requirement.


Fishing and Pearling:

  • Catching fish and other aquatic species

  • Culturing pearls and pearl shell

  • Tree farming and felling


Tree Farming and Felling:

  • Planting or caring for trees to be harvested

  • Felling trees in plantations or forests

  • Transporting felled trees to mills or processors


Mining & Construction Jobs


Eligible mining roles include (for Subclass 417 only):

  • Coal, metal ore, oil, and gas mining

  • Quarrying and exploration

  • Mining support services, including cleaning


Construction work in regional areas includes:

  • Residential and commercial building construction

  • Landscaping, site preparation, and painting

  • Fencing, scaffolding, and support or cleaning services


Bushfire Recovery Work


Eligible if performed in declared bushfire-affected areas. Work may include:

  • Rebuilding fences and caring for wildlife

  • Supporting volunteer organisations

  • Demolition, trench digging, land clearing

  • Construction or repair of roads, bridges, fencing, irrigation, and sewage systems


Paid or volunteer work counts.


Natural Disaster Recovery Work


Eligible if performed after 31 December 2021 in declared flood, cyclone, or severe weather areas. Jobs include:


  • Cleaning, moving furniture, rubbish removal

  • Demolition, land clearing, earth moving

  • Construction or repair of roads, bridges, fences, irrigation, and sewage

  • Admin, coordination, and customer service for flood support

  • Transporting food, medications, and caring for affected animals

  • Supporting charities and government disaster response
