If you are planning to migrate to Australia as a Surveyor (ANZSCO 232212), it is important to stay informed about skills assessment authorities and changes in the process. Recently, significant updates have affected the assessment pathway for this occupation.
Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA) Skills Assessment
The Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA) was the designated authority for Surveyor skills assessments. However, the GCA went into liquidation on 21 August 2025, and as a result:
No new skilled migration assessments are being accepted by GCA.
Any assessments submitted and paid before 21 August 2025 will still be processed.
Members and applicants can find information on the GCA website regarding existing assessments.
Current Validity of GCA Assessments
The Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) has confirmed with the Department of Home Affairs that existing GCA skills assessment outcome letters will continue to be accepted for the duration of their validity period. This ensures that applicants who already received a positive assessment can still use it for skilled migration applications.
Future Assessing Authority for Surveyors
At this time, the new skills assessment authority for the Surveyor occupation has not yet been confirmed. The Department advised that applicants seeking information on the next assessing authority should contact the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).
The MIA is actively awaiting updates from DEWR and will provide further information to members as soon as it becomes available.
