The Tasmania Skilled Migration Program Updates 2026 introduce several adjustments to the 491 Skilled Employment Pathway, the 190 Skilled Graduate and Established Resident pathways, and the scoring system for Orange and Orange-plus attributes. These changes aim to better recognise long-term employment, clarify income requirements, and improve transparency for applicants submitting new Registrations of Interest (ROIs).
Subclass 491 Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathway Updates
Orange-plus Attribute: Increased Points and Clearer Criteria
The Orange-plus attribute now offers 35 points, increased from the previous 30 points. To claim this attribute, applicants must:
Have been employed in Tasmania for more than 12 months but less than 18 months
Be working in a role directly related to their skills assessment
Earn at least AUD 57,000 per year (or AUD 28.85 per hour)
This change highlights the importance of ongoing, skills-relevant employment.
Orange Attribute: Updated Income Requirement
The Orange attribute has been amended to distinguish it clearly from Orange-plus. The updated requirement states that applicants must:
Have two years of relevant prior Australian industry experience
Currently earn more than the National Minimum Wage but less than AUD 57,000 per year
Previously, the income threshold aligned with Orange-plus, causing confusion for applicants.
Impact on New and Existing ROIs
Only new ROIs are affected by these changes. If an ROI was submitted before the update and claimed both Orange and Orange-plus attributes, those claims will still be recognised.

Revised Orange-plus Attribute for Graduate Program Offers
Tasmania has updated the Orange-plus Graduate Program attribute to remove the restriction that applicants must not have commenced the program. Applicants may now claim this attribute if:
They received a graduate program offer within the past 12 months
The program is full-time
The offer was made before or within 12 months of graduation
The role is directly related to their skills assessment
The offer is from a Tasmanian business with at least 20 employees, operating for more than five years
This update benefits graduates who have already begun their program but previously could not count it toward their ROI.

Clarified Business Income and Profit Requirement
To avoid ambiguity, Tasmania has clarified that eligible businesses must generate personal income for the applicant equal to or above the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (currently AUD 76,515). Additionally, the business itself must achieve:
A net profit after the applicant receives that income
A continuous operating period of at least two years in Tasmania
This ensures applicants demonstrate genuine, sustainable business activity contributing to the state’s economy.
