Tasmania Skilled Migration Update March 2026

Last Updated: 13 March 2026

Tasmania released an important update to the State and Regional Sponsored Skilled Migration Program on 13 March 2026. The announcement outlines major changes to invitation rounds as the 2025–26 migration program year moves into its final quarter.

Strong demand for Tasmania nomination has already used most of the state’s allocation. Tasmania has issued a large number of invitations to candidates, leaving only a limited number of nomination places for the remainder of the program year.

This Tasmania Skilled Migration Update March 2026 confirms that Tasmania will limit new invitations while the state processes applications already submitted.

Tasmania Skilled Migration Update March 2026: Invitation Rounds Near Allocation Limit

Tasmania continues to receive strong interest in the State Visa Nomination program.

Most nomination invitations for the 2025–26 program year have already been issued. These invitations will likely consume almost the entire allocation provided to Tasmania.

Despite the limited places remaining, Tasmania will continue to:

  • Process applications already submitted

  • Accept new Registrations of Interest (ROIs)

  • Manage the remaining nomination places carefully

Tasmania will provide another Tasmania Skilled Migration Update once the Australian Government confirms the 2026–27 nomination allocation.

Tasmania Skilled Migration Update March 2026: Subclass 190 Invitations Paused

The Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa receives the most significant change in this update.

Tasmania has paused invitations for ROIs that do not receive a Gold Pass.

Applicants can still submit an ROI, but Tasmania will restrict invitations while the state processes existing applications.

Green Pass Applicants

Applicants with a Green Pass can still receive an invitation within six months of ROI submission.

However, even when Tasmania approves the application, the state may not issue the nomination during this program year if all nomination places become full.

This situation means some applicants may need to wait for the next migration program year.

Tasmania Skilled Migration Update March 2026: Subclass 491 Invitations Continue

Tasmania confirmed that Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional Visa invitations will continue.

However, the state will reduce the number of invitations issued while officers process applications already lodged.

Key points include:

  • Invitations will continue for all pass colours

  • Tasmania will reduce the number of invitations

  • The state will prioritise existing applications

This approach allows Tasmania to manage the remaining nomination places until the end of the program year.Tasmania Skilled Migration Update March 2026: Competition for Nomination Increases

The Tasmania Skilled Migration Update March 2026 highlights the growing competition for state nomination.

As the program year approaches its end:

  • Most nomination places have already been allocated

  • Subclass 190 invitations remain extremely limited

  • Subclass 491 invitations continue but with fewer spots

Applicants who plan to apply for Tasmania nomination should ensure their ROI details, employment evidence, and supporting documents remain strong and accurate.

A well-prepared ROI can improve the chances of receiving an invitation before the program year closes.
