485 Visa Fee Increase

Last updated: 2 March 2026

From 1 March 2026, the Australian Government increased the application charge for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485).

According to the Department of Home Affairs fee schedule updated on 1 March 2026, the government application charge for the primary applicant now stands at:

AUD $4,600

This amount applies to all 485 applications lodged on or after 1 March 2026.

Before you lodge your application, confirm your eligibility and visa stream.

If you’re planning to apply for the TR-485 visa, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming changes and how to save before the price hike.

Updated 485 Visa Fee Increase (From 1 March 2026)

Primary Applicant

  • AUD $4,600

485 Visa Fees for Dependants

If you include family members in your application, you must pay additional government charges.

From 1 March 2026:

  • Partner or secondary applicant (18 years and over): AUD $2,300

  • Child (under 18 years): AUD $1,160

You must pay these charges at the time you lodge your application.

Including dependants increases the total cost significantly. Plan your budget carefully before you proceed.

These fees apply across:

  • Post-Study Work stream

  • Graduate Work stream

  • Eligible subsequent 485 applications

You can verify the official charges directly on the Department of Home Affairs website under the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa page.

Who Must Pay the New Fees?

You must pay the updated charges if you:

  • Lodge your 485 visa on or after 1 March 2026

  • Include a partner or dependent child

  • Apply for a subsequent 485 visa (if eligible)

If your student visa will expire soon, review your timeline immediately.

Why This Matters for 485 Applicants

The 485 visa usually gives graduates one opportunity to apply.

A refusal can affect your future migration pathway. With the government charge now at $4,600, errors create serious financial risk.

Before you lodge your application, confirm that you:

  • Meet the Australian study requirement

  • Select the correct 485 stream

  • Meet English language requirements

  • Hold valid health insurance

  • Prepare complete and accurate documents
