Temporary Graduate visa Replacement stream​​

Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485), usually known as TR, lets you (international students) work and live in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. Holding this visa, you can travel, work, and study in Australia.

​Graduates are only able to apply for the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) once as a primary applicant. The visa can only be applied within 6 months after finishing your course.

Temporary Graduate visa Replacement stream​​

​​The Replacement stream of the Temporary Graduate visa applications will open from 1 July 2022 for current and former Temporary Graduate visa holders impacted by COVID-19 international travel restrictions.

​Removal of ''Occupation Nomination'' and ''Skills Assessment" requirements for Temporary Graduate visa

(Graduate Work Stream)

The requirement to nominate an occupation from the skilled occupation list and obtain a skills assessment will be removed for Temporary Graduate visa Graduate Work stream applications from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.

You may be eligible for TR 485 Replacement visa, if,

1. TR visa expired/will expire between this time frame (1 February 2020 - 29 September 2022) AND,

2. Have been outside of Australia for ANY period during this time (1 February 2020 - 14 December 2021) AND,

3. held TR 485 on 15 December 2021.

Temporary Graduate Visa (TR 485) period is now 3 Years!

• Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) Visa Period Extend to 3 years for Master by Coursework (previously was 2 years), and

• Extended to 2 Years for VET courses (previously was 18 months)

Applicable for international students who have graduated with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List released by the Department of Home Affairs. 

A visa granted in this stream will be (usually) valid for 24 months. (previously was 18 months) (This change will be in place until further notice)

​Post-Study Workstream

Applicable for international students who graduate with an eligible qualification, and have applied for and were granted their first Student Visa to Australia on or after 5 November 2011.

A visa​ granted in this stream will be valid for two to four years, depending on the visa applicant's qualification.

Up to 4 Years of Temporary Graduate Visa

You may now be eligible for up to 4 Years of Temporary Graduate Visa (TR 485) if you have studied in a Regional Area of Australia (Regional places include places like Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Adelaide, Canberra, Gold Coast, and many more..)
