Update!

2024-25 NSW Skilled Migration Program: Key Updates for Skilled Migrants

The NSW Skilled Visa Nomination Program for the 2024-25 program year is now open, featuring several updates aimed at streamlining the process and offering increased opportunities for skilled migrants and their families to build a future in New South Wales.

NSW Priority Sectors

This year’s program aligns with the NSW Government's focus on addressing skills shortages and supporting industries undergoing structural changes. The priority sectors include:

  • Construction (infrastructure and housing)

  • Renewables (net zero and clean energy)

  • Care Economy (aged care, disability services, and early childhood education)

  • Digital and Cyber (across all industries)

  • Education (teachers)

  • Agriculture and Agrifood

  • Advanced Manufacturing

2024-25 Skills Lists

The skills lists for this program year have been published at the ANZSCO unit group level. Separate lists are available for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491). Be sure to verify if your occupation is eligible before proceeding with a skills assessment, as not all occupations in an ANZSCO unit group are eligible for these visas.

Invitation Rounds for Subclass 190 Visa

Invitation rounds for the Subclass 190 visa will begin soon and run regularly until the quota is met. Ensure that your SkillSelect EOI is updated and supported with valid documentation to maintain eligibility.

NSW Nomination Pathways for Subclass 491 Visa

Two key pathways for the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491)—Pathway 1 and Pathway 3—will open soon. It’s crucial to check the eligibility criteria on the NSW Migration website to ensure compliance before applying.

New Regional NSW Graduate Pathway for Subclass 491 Visa

A new direct application pathway has been introduced for recent graduates from select regional NSW institutions. This applies under Pathway 3 for the Subclass 491 visa, offering more opportunities for graduates to secure NSW nomination.

TSMIT Concession for Subclass 491 (Pathway 1)

Certain occupations may qualify for a 10% concession on the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) under Pathway 1. This concession helps make it easier for applicants to meet income requirements. More details can be found on the TSMIT Concessions List on the NSW Migration website.

Simplified Skilled Employment Criteria

NSW has simplified its approach to skilled employment, now adopting the Home Affairs definition of skilled employment. This means fewer restrictions on what employment can be claimed in your EOI. For personalized guidance, consult a registered migration agent or legal professional.

Changes to EOI Submission

From this year onwards, any valid EOI with NSW selected will be considered during an invitation round, removing previous restrictions. Ensure that your EOI is complete and visible to NSW for consideration.

Application Fee Update

The application fee has increased in line with CPI, now set at A$315, plus GST if applying from within Australia.

For further information and guidance on how these changes may impact your visa application, visit the NSW Migration website or consult a migration agent.

We look forward to assisting skilled migrants in making their future in NSW.
