$50,000 Scholarship for Postgraduate Students

The Western Australian Government has launched a $500,000 annual scholarship program aimed at attracting high-performing international postgraduate students to the State’s universities.

The prestigious Western Australia Premier’s University Scholarship opens on 1 March 2023 for Semester 2, 2023 applications. The annual scholarship provides 10 international postgraduate students with a one-off scholarship payment of $50,000.

  • The Western Australia Premier’s University Scholarship will run annually until 2026.

  • Each of the participating WA Universities will award the $50,000 scholarship to 2 successful students.

The State’s 5 universities are:

  1. Curtin University

  2. Edith Cowan University

  3. Murdoch University

  4. The University of Notre Dame (Fremantle)

  5. The University of Western Australia,

Who is Eligible?

In this current Financial year, this scholarship is open to international students applying to study a postgraduate course in Western Australia from identified key offshore markets;

Brazil

  • Colombia

  • Hong Kong

  • Japan

  • Kenya

  • India

  • Indonesia

  • Republic of Korea (South Korea)

  • Singapore

  • South Africa

  • The Philippines

  • Vietnam, and

  • Zimbabwe  

 

How to Apply?

Applications will be made directly to and assessed by the above universities. Applications for the 2022-23 Scholarship program close Wednesday 31 May 2023.

Students must apply through a written application process to be evaluated by their chosen university. This may include assessment of academic records, responses to qualitative questions contained within the application, and supporting documents provided with each application. Please note that, applicants have to apply on their own for this Scholarship.

However, it is important to recognize that there are only hand picked few scholarships under this category and applicants also need to consider there options for other Western Australian Universities as well and under different Scholarship categories where they can avail up to 25% Scholarship. $16.8 million boost to encourage students to study in WA

Western Australia Government invests $16.8 million to encourage international students to study in the State​

$6.8 million committed for the continuation of the International Student Accommodation Subsidy and ELICOS Bursary to attract international students to WA. A Guardian can apply on behalf of international students enrolled in primary or secondary school and aged under 16 years. If approved, funds will be paid to the Guardian's Australian bank account. 

 

The international student incentives will provide one-off payments of:

  • ISAS - $1,500 for up to 2,500 eligible students to offset accommodation expenses while studying full-time in WA in Semester 2, 2022; and

  • ISEB - $1,500 for up to 2,000 eligible international students to offset fees when undertaking an approved ELICOS course in WA.

ISAS (International Student Accommodation subsidy)

A one off support payment to offset accommodation expenses for eligible international students for Semester 2, 2022

  • Applications Are Open NOW! 

  • Applications close at 11am (AWST) on Wednesday 26 October 2022, or when program funds have been exhausted, whichever date is earliest.
     

This fund is paid out to successful eligible applicants once applicant has commenced studies as at application date, and reached the census date for your institution. Additional eligibility criteria applies.

Eligibility for ISAS

  1. Be an enrolled international student.

  2. Have commenced studies onshore in Western Australia since 1 July 2022.

  3. Be studying at a CRICOS-registered provider (Western Australian University, Vocational College or TAFE, pathway college, English Language (ELICOS) provider, or a primary or secondary school). (CRICOS - Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students) (ELICOS - English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students).

  4. Be studying full-time in Semester 2, 2022, and the enrolled course must run for at least one year / two semesters.

  5. Have commenced studies as at application date, and reached the census date of the institution.  

  6. Not have been in Western Australia studying at any time in 2021, and have entered Western Australia to commence or recommence their studies in person in Semester 2, 2022.

  7. Not have studied in Western Australia at any time during Semester 1, 2022.

A Guardian can apply on behalf of international students enrolled in primary or secondary school and aged under 16 years. If approved, funds will be paid to the Guardian's Australian bank account. 

How to apply for ISAS

Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to https://ie.smartygrants.com.au/S2-2022-ISAS

  2. Click on the ‘Start a submission’ link.

  3. Complete the application registration process. You will receive an email confirming your reference number (ISAS#).

  4. Compete the online application form. You can save and return to the application form at any time before you submit the form.

  5. Once your application is complete, click ‘Submit’.

  6. You will receive an automated email acknowledging that your application has been received. Without this acknowledgement your application has not been submitted.

ISEB (International Student ELICOS Bursary)

The International Student ELICOS Bursary is a one off support payment of $1,500 to the first 2,000 eligible international students in Semester 2, 2022, to offset fees when undertaking an approved ELICOS course in Western Australia.

Applications open 9am (AWST) on Wednesday 14 September 2022 and close at 11am (AWST) on Wednesday 26 October 2022, or when program funds have been exhausted, whichever date is earliest. 

This fund is paid out to successful eligible applicants once you have completed half of their enrolled course which must be confirmed by the relevant education provider. Additional eligibility criteria applies. 

Eligibility for ISEB

  1. Be an enrolled international student.

  2. Be enrolled, and in Western Australia, to study with a CRICOS registered English Language (ELICOS) provider. (CRICOS = Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students).

  3. Be studying full-time, with their course commencing on or after Tuesday 28 June 2022. Their enrolled course must run for at least 20 weeks, or form part of an approved Pathway enrolment that leads to a VET or higher education course.

  4. Complete at least half of your course (in weeks), as confirmed by the nominated education provider, before payment is made.

  5.  Not be in Western Australia studying at any time in 2021, and have entered Western Australia to commence your studies in person since Tuesday June 28, 2022.

  6. You were not studying in Western Australia on or before Monday 27 June 2022.     

A Guardian can apply on behalf of international students aged under 16 years. If approved, funds will be paid to the Guardian's Australian bank account. 

How to apply for ISEB

This program support the WA Government's commitment to international education and form part of the additional $41.2 million in international education initiatives announced in the 2022-23 State Budget.
